Domain
Names should be easy to remember, but also contain keys to
the product or services you provide. Search engines review
domain names in their search for the "keywords"
entered by the web surfer. Therefore, as a general rule, keep
the domain name as short as possible as long as it accurately
describes your service.
For example, if you are selling mystery books, you might
think that books.com would be a great name. However, books.com
leads to your site customers who are looking for ALL types
of books. So perhaps, mysterybooks.com would be more appropriate.
Get the idea? Be as specific as you can so when people locate
your web site, they won't be disappointed.
What if the domain name you want is taken? If someone has
already reserved mysterybooks.com, you could choose mystery-books.com.
However, if some of your customers remember mysterybooks.com
and forget the hyphen, they would find only your competitor.
Domain names can now be up to 67 alpha-numeric characters
in length; hyphens are also permitted. Domain name registration
is normally $70 for the first two years and then $35 annually
thereafter. Before registering, check to see if it is available
by performing a Domain Name Search.
